AI Rules for the Marblehead Arts Festival
1. Creative Integrity
AI-generated art must respect the original artistic vision and intent. Artists should disclose where AI was used in their submissions, ensuring transparency with festival attendees.
2. Originality
AI artworks must be original creations, and artists should avoid fully generated AI submissions.
3. AI as a Tool, Not a Replacement
AI should be seen as a tool to enhance the creative process rather than a replacement for human artists. The use of AI should support artistic expression and creativity rather than taking over the artistic process entirely.
4. Intellectual Property
Artists using AI tools must clarify who holds the copyright if the AI used in the final artwork sources copyrighted material. If using copyrighted materials in their artwork they must have permission, or the work sourced must be in the public domain. If using such material, proper attribution must be provided. Is it the artist, the software creator, or a collaborative partnership between both? This must be clearly stated, with the artist retaining full responsibility for their creations.
5. Data Privacy
AI artworks that display personal data must adhere to local data protection laws and must inform subjects in advance about what data is being shown and how has been used. No personally identifiable information should be gathered or shown without explicit consent.
6. No Deception
Artists must avoid creating works where the use of AI is hidden or deceptive. The audience should always be aware when AI is part of the creative process. AI-driven works should be presented honestly to ensure no misrepresentation.
7. Future of AI in The Marblehead Arts Festival
The board will continue to discuss the future of AI in the Marblehead Arts Festival. Festival organizers aim to foster inclusive conversations on how AI can shape creativity, enhance storytelling, and open new frontiers in artistic expression.
The Marblehead Festival of Arts reserves the right to disqualify any submission that does not adhere to these rules. These rules help to ensure that AI’s use in the festival is ethical, transparent, and aligned with the spirit of creativity.
