Growing Stories, Growing Your Voice

Growing Stories, Growing Your Voice

Sunday, July 7, 11:30 a.m.

Event Center, Abbot Public Library

Can one person make a difference in the world around them? Author Cynthia Platt will lead an interactive read-aloud of the picture book Grow, and then take a look at how one tiny seed of a story idea grew into a book.

With a group discussion and a very special craft, kids (and adults!) can create their own garden of colorful flowers and ideas about how to make the world a better place.

About Cynthia Platt

Cynthia Platt is the author of books for young readers for all ages, ranging from board books to young adult fiction. Her picture and board books include Grow, Happy Halloween, Teal Pumpkin, Easter Starring Egg, A Little Bit of Love, and Panda-monium. She’s also the author of the young middle grade novel Parker Bell & the Science of Friendship, the young adult novel Postcards from Summer, and numerous Curious George books. For the Khan Academy Kids learning app, she’s written dozens of picture books and early readers.

Cynthia is a member of Lesley University’s MFA in Creative Writing faculty, and also teaches undergraduate liberal arts courses at Montserrat College of Art. On top of that, she has more than 20 years of experience as an editor of books for young readers at Candlewick Press and the former Houghton Mifflin Harcourt trade publisher.

Cynthia and her family live in Marblehead. One of the best things about living here, Cynthia notes, is that they are just a stone’s throw to the beach, where she can spend endless hours searching for sea glass. Visit Cynthia online at cynthiaplatt.com.
