Presentation

Phyllis Karas will lead a presentation on writing memoir. The workshop will include a panel with Karas and three of the women prominently featured in her soon-to-be-published book, The Women of Southie. The book, which will be released in October 2017 to coincide with National Abuse Month, depicts the lives of six Southie women. Each one offers her own personal story, revealing the horrific pain and intense joy, the immense obstacles and the indomitable courage that have filled their lives. Sparing no distressing detail, striving only for a true and honest depiction of their struggles and successes, these stories bring each of these six women, ranging in age from 30 to 60, to life on the pages of this book. Anna Weeks, Karen Rakes, and Nancy Young, will join Karas on the panel. Young’s story of unspeakable family events, presided over by a strong and devoted mother, is one of the most important and moving parts of the book.
