2026 Judge: Ruth Brooks
Ruth Rooks is an award-winning artist who has been painting for
many years in any medium that suits her. Currently, the medium
of her preference is gouache. Ruth’s subjects have included still
lives, the “Big Dig” construction, portraits, and animal portraits. In
the past Ruth has also been a plein air painter, but she now
prefers to paint from the other side of the window. She is blessed
with a beautiful view of rocks and trees on a fairly steep slope just
outside her studio. From the comfort of her studio, she can
capture the changing seasons, ephemeral light and the diverse
seasonal plants, moss and wildlife, without having to freeze,
swelter, or brave harsh winds. Ruth currently serves as President
of the Swampscott Art Association. She is delighted and honored
to turn her eye as a judge to the Festival of Arts plein air
submissions.
