About the Event

Independent country artist guitartist/singer/songwriter Houston Bernard, the 2024 New England Music Awards Country Act of the Year, has released his new album Oklahoma Stars and is bringing his big country sound our Crocker Park stage!

Rooted in Texas Country and Red Dirt tradition, Oklahoma Stars is Bernard’s most personal project to date, drawing inspiration from his Oklahoma upbringing, deep Nashville family connections, and more than a decade of independent touring. Born in Oklahoma, Bernard traces his musical foundation to his father and uncle, who were active in the Nashville scene before he was born. His uncle had a song recorded by Reba McEntire, and both performed alongside country legends including Tanya Tucker, Dave Dudley, and Wanda Jackson. “That history is why this album means so much to me,” Bernard says. “Oklahoma Stars is about honoring my family, my roots, and the kind of country music I grew up on.” Bernard is also a direct descendant of George “Bittercreek” Newcomb, a member of Butch Cassidy’s Wild Bunch. The outlaw figure helped inspire the Eagles’ Desperado album, including the track “Bitter Creek,” a connection Bernard says reflects the independent spirit behind his career.

Musically, Oklahoma Stars blends modern country production with Red Dirt grit and live-band energy, exploring themes of perseverance, family, and chasing long-term dreams while staying grounded. Bernard recently celebrated the album with a sold-out merchandise party in the Boston area and is now preparing to bring the new songs to audiences throughout the region during his upcoming summer tour. In addition to being named Country Act of the Year at the 2024 New England Music Awards, Bernard also won a Josie Award for his song and video “In My Blood,” and delivered his acceptance speech on the Grand Ole Opry stage. “This record feels like coming full circle,” Bernard says. “I’m not chasing trends. I’m making the kind of country music my heart tells me to make.” Visually, Oklahoma Stars also marks a refined new chapter for Bernard, including a custom-tailored stage look that reflects his confidence and growth as an artist. The updated image mirrors the album’s tone: grounded, intentional, and deeply personal.

After years of touring, releasing music independently, and building his career outside the traditional Nashville system, Bernard sees Oklahoma Stars as a defining milestone—connecting his past to his future. The album is available now on all major streaming platforms, with physical copies and exclusive merchandise available through his official store. Put on your Cowboy Hat and that belt buckle for some Real Country in Crocker Park!
