painting the town
Join local artists that capture images across Marblehead..........
Plein Air painting is a French expression for painting outdoors. These fresh, often rapid works can capture the essence of a scene and the weather with a unique charm, unlike the more careful studies produced in a studio.
On Friday, June 29th, Plein aire artists will seek out strategic locations throughout Marblehead and begin capturing the town’s scenic beauty on canvas and paper. Feel free to roam the town and observe artists creating art. That afternoon or the next morning, the artists turn in their completed, framed works for inclusion in the Painting-the-Town Exhibit. On the morning of the second day, while the exhibit site is closed to the public, the paintings are hung, then judged and ribbons are awarded.
The public is invited to meet the artists, view the exhibit, and cast ballots to determine the People’s Choice Award winner. In addition to the Painting-the-Town Exhibit, Marblehead Arts Association features its Members’ Summer Exhibit.
