Rachel Slade — In her bestselling, multi-award-winning book Into the Raging Sea: Thirty-Three Mariners, One Megastorm, and the Sinking of El Faro, Boston-based author Rachel Slade recounts the day Hurricane Joaquin barreled into the Bermuda Triangle and swallowed the container ship El Faro whole, resulting in the deadliest American shipping disaster in 35 years. Slade will discuss the implications of the disaster and the role of the New England maritime industry.

A Sense of Place - Panel discussion on place and community in creative nonfiction, play writing, and poetry

This afternoon’s panel will close out this year’s literary festival with a lively discussion among three prize-winning North Shore writers on the ways place and community influence and lend authenticity to their work.

Panelists: Eric Jay Dolin (nonfiction), J. D. Scrimgeour (poetry), Shari Frost (playwrighting & screenwriting)
