Winter Short
Film Festival a Success

About 55 people enjoyed the eleven films in the 2017 Long Winter Short Film Festival on Wednesday, February 8th at the Abbot Public Library.  The selection of IMG_8821films was a combination of the films shown at Crocker Park in July 2016, plus a few never seen before films.

The films—comedies, animations, documentaries, essayist reflections—were chosen for their uniquely personal qualities. The filmmakers include both adults and teenagers from the North Shore and elsewhere.

The audience voted on the Winter Festival People’s Choice award.  Many said that they were all excellent, so it was hard to pick out one film.  The People’s Choice for the 2017 Winter Festival was “Birthday”.  Birthday is the story of when a young military wife gets news that her Marine husband had been severely wounded in combat, she discovers that life ahead for them is going to be a difficult yet amazing journey.  This work won the Outstanding Work category in the 2016 Summer Festival.

The film by student Alyssa Peguero won second place in the People’s Choice award.  She won the Best of Show in the 2016 Summer Festival.  It is a story of a teenager telling her absent father what she thinks of him and the raw feeling is transmitted via a handmade creation.  Alyssa’s film was produced through the Real to Reel Film School at Raw Arts in Lynn.
