| Winter Film Festival attracted an enthusiastic following. |
Winter Film Festival broke new ground when it opened to a packed crowd at the newly renovated Marblehead Little Theatre. The program included fourteen films, and four of the filmmakers were on hand to participate in a post-screening discussion. Todd Davis, of orLater Productions, commented that the absurdly self-destructive behavior of the family members in his film, In the Tradition of My Family, finds parallels in the abusive customs of some families and cultures. Julia Radochia commented on putting together a crew to make Jimmy’s House of Hugs. Barry O’Brien, of North Shore Communications, described how he created his documentary, Gertrude L. Thebaud, using archival material available in local libraries. Angel Santora, co-producer of Just Another Passerby, talked about the opportunities provided by RAW Arts in Lynn.
After the screening, the audience cast ballots to determine the People’s Choice Award. The winner was Uso Justo, a film by Coleman Miller, of Minnesota. Among the films presented by local filmmakers, Julia Radocia’s Jimmy’s House of Hugs was the crowd’s favorite.
For a complete listing of films presented, see Winter Film Festival. Entries are now being accepted for this summer’s Film Festival, which will be held Sunday evening, July 1, outdoors in Crocker Park. |
