Artists who reside in, work in, or
are members of an art association in Essex County are invited to
enter their original works for consideration in the Marblehead Festival
of Arts. For detailed information on entering artwork, including entry deadlines
and Exhibit Entry Forms,
Each exhibit is organized by a comittee which selects two or three
judges with expertise in their respective fields. The judges first
select works for showing during the Festival. From these, they then
choose award recipients for Best of Show, Outstanding Work, and
Honorable Mention.
Several categories also carry special recognition awards: in Drawing,
the Lee R. Smith Award; in Painting, the Edward D. Carey Award;
in Photography, the Samuel Chamberlain Award; in Senior Art, the
Louise Remick Brown Award; and in Poetry, the Marcia Doehner Award.
Most of the artwork displayed in the Visual Arts exhibits is for
sale. Purchasing a work benefits both the artist and the Festival,
which receives a commission on all sales. Prices are listed in the
printed Festival Program, which is available at all exhibit locations.
For details on how to purchase a work, please see the Exhibit Sitters.
