YOU are invited to submit your original work to the Marblehead Festival of Arts. Please review the entry details below and click the categories for specific information.

You are invited to submit work in one or multiple exhibit categories. See below for individual exhibit info and requirements.  Please click each exhibit below for further details.
We are pleased to now offer and strongly encourage the use of our improved online entry forms. Just look for our MFoA Website Logo and click on it to be taken to our registration page where you can enter for Crafts, Drawing,Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture and Senior Art. Online Entry Deadline: The Short Film Festival online entry process is currently open and ends March 31st. The general online entry process will open April 13th for Crafts, Drawing, Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture and Senior Art and will close on Thursday May 18th at noon. This will give us time to prepare the online info for drop-off. 

Painting the Town registration and payment will be online and will be open until Wednesday June 28th at noon.

Writers’ World registration and payment will also be online, but will use a different form and will close on May 20th. All submissions will be entered online, through email or mailed USPS.

You will still be able to register and pay for your art entries the traditional way by downloading the standard forms for Registration and Exhibit Entry Forms and bringing the completed forms to any drop-off day.

Teachers, youth and student artists should check back to the MFoA website for updated entry information for the Youth and Student Exhibit.

Art Drop-Off: Artists wishing to display their art in the 2017 Marblehead Festival of Arts must drop-off their works on the scheduled drop-off days:

Drop-Off Day #2 Thursday, May 25th from 6 pm to 8 pm

Judging:

Judging takes place on Saturday, June 3rd. Notification of acceptance/non-acceptance will be mailed or emailed depending on your preferred communication method (email will be faster).

Non-Accepted Work Pickup:

Saturday, June 17th, 9 am–12 pm, at each exhibit’s respective drop-off location.

Awards Ceremony:

The Awards Ceremony will be Friday, June 30th at 6 pm at Abbot Hall.

Art Exhibit Dates:

Accepted work will be displayed from July 1st–4th and may not be removed until 4:00 pm after the Festival closes on July 4th.  No exceptions will be made.

Accepted Work Pickup:

Tuesday, July 4th, 4–5 pm at each exhibit’s respective Exhibit Location.
Wednesday, July 5th, 6–8 pm at each exhibit’s respective Exhibit Location.

If you are unable to pick up your accepted or non-accepted work at the allotted time in these notices, please get a friend or relative to make the pickup for you during these times. We are unable to store this art after the scheduled pickup times.

Artwork not picked up within 60 days after the close of the Arts Festival shall become the property of the Marblehead Festival of Arts, Inc.

Entry Fee:

$10.00 per entry for Adult submissions. Youth and Student exhibits requires no fees.

Art Sales:

The Marblehead Festival of Arts, Inc., will receive a 30% commission on any sales. All work must be sold as displayed.

Description: Juried exhibit of original handicrafts, traditional or contemporary in nature, such as calligraphy, collage, quilts, textiles, furniture, jewelry, pottery and stained glass. No kits allowed. Calligraphy must be framed, glassed and wired (wire and clip frames excluded) and ready to hang. Size not to exceed 3’ 6”in any direction, including frame. Jewelry should be mounted for display. Fragile and small items should be packed in labeled containers for protection before and during judging. Quilters must provide their own quilt stands.

Short Film Festival

Description Film Festival works are intended to show the many ways that film and video can be used as an art form to inform and express. They are not commercial films of the sort that you can find in your standard multiplex.

Submissions: Online or through U.S. Mail

Submissions Accepted: February 5 through March 31
Rules: Maximum of 15 minutes in length
Completed within the last two years
Film genres considered: Comedy, Drama, Documentary, Animation, Music Video, Experimental/Performance
Entries must be submitted on two DVD screeners or an online screener.
Youth/Student Submission includes artists up to and including 12th Grade and age 18.
There is no fee students or youth
Adult Submissions include artists ages 18 and older
Adult entries must be accompanied by a processing fee of $20 per film.

Mixed Media

Description:A juried exhibit of original artwork in two or more traditional or non-traditional media in a single composition, with an emphasis on but not limited to paint, collage, drawing, image transfer, assemblage, papier-mâché, textiles, wax and found objects. Pieces may be displayed as tactile two- or three-dimensional surfaces. Appropriate bases and materials to hang artwork are to be supplied by the exhibiting artists. Art that requires electricity for viewing cannot be accepted.

Description: Painting the Town is a one-day event culminating in a judged exhibit. On Friday, June 30 , artists meet for breakfast, then select locations in town and paint scenes en plein air. At the end of the day, artists frame their works and submit them to the Festival for the Painting the Town Exhibit. Numbers of Entries: Two (2) in each of three (3) categories.

Description: Juried exhibit of original unpublished short fiction, poetry, and essay or creative non-fiction in the Adult Division. Short fiction is limited to 2500 words, Essay/Creative Non-Fiction to 1500 words and Poetry to 50 lines.

Awards: Ribbons are awarded for Best in Show, Outstanding Work and Honorable Mention in the adult division only.

Special Award: One poem will be selected to receive the Marcia Doehner Award. One piece may be awarded the Georgette Peck Award

Submission Guidelines: You can enter through the mail or take  advantage of online registration and payment.

*Names of the authors must not appear on the entries.
*Word count must appear in the upper right corner.
*Each entry document file must be double spaced and titled.
*If documents are entered through the email Entry fees for adult entries should be mailed the same day as the email submission along with a completed entry form for each entry.
*The email that accompanies the submission should include this information:
Name, Address, State, Zip, Phone, email address and indication of adult or student division and a declaration of Division (Adult or Student) and Category- Poetry, Essay Creative Fiction or Non-Fiction.
