YOU are invited to submit your original work to the Marblehead Festival of Arts. Please review the entry details below and click the categories for specific information.

Online Entry Deadline: The Short Film Festival online entry process is currently open and ends April 30th.  The general online entry process will open April 10th  for Crafts, Drawing,Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Senior Art and Writers World  and will close at 11:45 pm on May 16th 2016. This will give us time to prepare the online info for drop off.  You will still be able to register by downloading the standard forms for Exhibit Entry  and bringing the filled out forms to any Drop Off day. Teachers, youth and student artists should check back here for entry information for the Youth and Student Exhibit.

Art Drop Off: Artists wishing to display their art in the 2016 Marblehead Festival of Arts must drop off their works on the scheduled drop-off days:

Drop Off Day #2 Thursday, May 26th from 6 pm to 8 pm

Entries to Writer’s World and the Film Festival are submitted electronically or through the US mail as described by the conditions in their section below.

Judging

Judging takes place on Saturday, June 4th. Notification of Acceptance/non-acceptance will be mailed or emailed within about three days of judging.

Non-Accepted Work Pickup: 

Saturday, June 18th, 9 am–Noon, at each exhibit’s respective Drop Off location.

Awards Ceremony:

The Awards Ceremony will be Thursday, June 30th at 6 pm at Abbot Hall.

Art Exhibit Dates

Accepted work will be displayed from July 1st–4th and may not be removed until 4:00 pm after the Festival closes on July 4th.  No exceptions will be made.

Accepted Work Pickup:

Monday, July 4th, 4–5 pm at each exhibit’s respective Exhibit Location.
Tuesday, July 5th, 6–8 pm at each exhibit’s respective Exhibit Location.

UNFORTUNATELY SOME ARTISTS FAILED TO PICK UP THEIR ART PIECES AFTER THE FESTIVAL. THE MFoA CANNOT CONVENIENTLY STORE THIS ART.  THERE WILL ONLY ONE MORE PICK UP DATE – IT WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR A DATE IN AUGUST 2016  – PLEASE CHECK BACK HERE FOR THE SPECIFIC DATE  – THAT WILL BE THE ONLY TIME TO PICK UP ANY REMAINING ART. – PLEASE SEE NOTE BELOW RE ‘PICK UP NOTICE’

Pick Up Notice:

If you are unable to pick up your accepted or non accepted work at the allotted time in these notices, please get a friend or relative to make the pickup for you. We are unable to conveniently store this art after the scheduled pick up times.

Artwork not picked up within 60 days after the close of the Arts Festival shall become the property of the Marblehead Festival of Arts, Inc.

Entry Fee:

$10.00 per entry for Adult submissions. Youth and Student exhibits require no fees.

Art Sales:

The Marblehead Festival of Arts, Inc., will receive a 30% commission on any sales. All work must be sold as displayed.

Description: Juried exhibit of original handicrafts, traditional or contemporary in nature, such as calligraphy, collage, quilts, textiles, furniture, jewelry, pottery and stained glass. No kits allowed. Calligraphy must be framed, glassed and wired (wire and clip frames excluded) and ready to hang. Size not to exceed 3’ 6”in any direction, including frame. Jewelry should be mounted for display. Fragile and small items should be packed in labeled containers for protection before and during judging.

Short Film Festival

Description Film Festival works are intended to show the many ways that film and video can be used as an art form to inform and express. They are not commercial films of the sort that you can find in your standard multiplex.

Submissions: Online or through U.S. Mail

Submissions Accepted: February 5 through April 17

Rules: Maximum of 20 minutes in length
Completed after December 2012
Film genres considered: Comedy, Drama, Documentary, Animation, Music Video, Experimental/Performance
Entries must be submitted on two DVD screeners or an online screener.
Youth/Student Submission includes artists up to and including 12th Grade and age 18.
There is no fee students or youth
Adult Submissions include artists ages 18 and older
Adult entries must be accompanied by a processing fee of $10 per film.

Description: A juried exhibit of original artwork in two or more traditional or nontraditional media in a single composition, with an emphasis on, but not limited to, paint, collage, drawing, image transfer, assemblage, paper mache, textiles, wax and found objects. Pieces may be displayed as tactile two or three dimensional surfaces. Appropriate bases and materials to hang artwork are to be supplied by the exhibiting artists. Art that requires electricity for viewing cannot be accepted.

Description: Juried exhibit of original plein aire work to be started and completed on the day of the event. Plein aire is a French expression for painting outdoors. Entry does not need to be dry at time of submission. Plein aire artists who enter this Exhibit will be strategically located throughout downtown Marblehead. Painting will take place on June 30thrd.

Rules for Entry: Original works, created within the past three (3) years, in black-and-white or color. Work must be wood or metal framed, glassed, wired and ready to hang. Excluded framing includes sawtooth hangers, spring clip, standing photo frames and pop-in frames. The size should not exceed 3’ 6” in any direction, including frame.

Description: Juried exhibit of original works in a variety of categories such as etching, engraving, dry point, linoleum cuts and other relief forms, silk screen, lithography, monoprints, woodcuts and wood engravings and other acceptable forms of printmaking. All plates, screens and blocks must be a direct result of the artist’s work. Work must be framed, glassed and wired (wire and clip frames excluded) and ready to hang. Description: Juried exhibit of original unpublished short fiction, poetry, and essay or creative non-fiction in the Adult Division. Short fiction is limited to 2500 words, Essay/Creative Non-Fiction to 1500 words and Poetry to 50 lines.

*Each entry document file must be double spaced and titled.

Youth & Student Exhibit Entry Form

This form is for Marblehead teachers who submit for their classes. If you are a individual who meets the requirements you may use the “Individual Youth and Student Entry Form” found under the “Art Entry – Youth and Student” heading on the “Info For Artists” drop down menu. Marblehead residents in public or private schools or classes and non-residents attending school or classes in Marblehead. Students: grades 5-12 Youth: Preschool through grade 4. There is no entry fee for youth and student entries.
