Student Art Scholarship

Since 1986, the Marblehead Festival of Arts has awarded a scholarship to a high school senior who resides in or attends school in Marblehead, and who is pursuing higher education in visual arts, performing arts, crafts, music, or drama. The Festival’s objective is to encourage students interested in pursuing the arts professionally to acquire a sound academic grounding in their chosen fields. The criteria considered by the Festival’s Scholarship Committee include financial need; academic achievements; art achievements; art-related and other activities, both in and out of school; honors and special citations received; and intended vocation.

The scholarship is awarded annually, and the winner is announced at the Awards Ceremony held just before the summer Festival. In 1986, the amount of the scholarship was $1,000. It was increased to $1,500 in 1997, and to $3,000 in 2001.
2011 Art Scholarship Recipient
Ariana Conte is the winner of the Marblehead Festival of Arts Student Art Scholarship. A recent graduate of Marblehead High School with high academic standing, Ariana will attend Emerson College in the fall, where she has been selected to work toward her BFA in Musical Theatre. During her high school career, Ariana appeared in many musicals and dramas. She was chosen for the all-star cast of the Massachusetts Drama Festival during her sophomore, junior and senior years. Ariana was also a four-year member of The Jewel Tones, Marblehead High School’s A cappella singing group. This year the group travelled to New York for an international competition.
For many years, Ariana has been part of Marblehead Little Theatre. Her music and acting experiences there began in the fourth grade in Oliver. Last summer, she was in Spelling Bee and was in this summer’s production of Hairspray.
“I am honored to have been selected for the Marblehead Festival of Arts Scholarship,” Ariana said. “The Festival has always been a part of my life and a tradition for my whole family. To win this scholarship is coming full circle, and I am grateful.”
