Established in 2008, in memory of Milton Bloom, the Milton Bloom Student Art Scholarship Program is intended to provide financial support to deserving students interested in developing their artistic talents. Scholarships shall be awarded to assist students in paying tuition for programs in the arts, which include fine arts, crafts, performing arts (music, stage, etc.), and creative writing.
Eligibility
Students in grades 7 through 11 who reside in or attend school in Marblehead shall be eligible to apply for this scholarship. Selection shall be based on artistic talent, accomplishments, and motivation. Applicants should have a demonstrated passion for art; should have at least two years of experience and should excel in their chosen areas; and should be seeking to expand their artistic horizons.
Lauren Nohelty has won this year’s Milton Bloom Student Art Scholarship. Now entering her sophomore year at Marblehead High School, Lauren started singing in her church choir when she was in the fifth grade. At Veterans’ Middle School, she participated in select chorus and numerous musical shows.
During her freshman year at MHS, Lauren was in the cast of Rent. She is also a member of Luminescence, the award-winning, all-female singing group. She is proud the singers recently released a CD featuring their popular songs of the past three years.
Marblehead Little Theatre has also been a home to Lauren over the past few years, where she has performed in Wizard of Oz, Oklahoma and Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
In thinking about her Festival award, Lauren is happy for the opportunity it gave her this summer to attend a four-day intensive workshop for vocal instruction at the Berklee College of Music. “It was a great experience, and I want to thank the Festival for making it possible. I also want to thank all the people who dedicate themselves to the Festival and for making the arts part of our community.”
