Claire Keyes – Poetry Workshop – Fun With Forms
Bio: Marblehead poet Claire Keyes is the founder of the Poetry Salon at the Abbot Public Library. Professor emerita at Salem State University, she has published the chapbook Rising and Falling plus two books of poetry: The Question of Rapture (Mayapple Press) and What Diamonds Can Do ( Cherry Grove Collections).
This workshop/discussion will explore three different poetic forms: terza rima, pantoum and sonnenezio as aspects of revision and for original work. Using examples from her own work, Claire Keyes will demonstrate how to take an early draft of a poem to a new stage using a poetic form and how to work with a totally new form to generate interesting poetic material. The governing idea comes from Robin Morgan’s statement that “structures contain possibilities.” What are those possibilities and how can we get them to work for us?
