Writers' World

Description: Juried exhibit of original, previously unpublished, adult and student short fiction, poetry, and essay/creative nonfiction. Short fiction is limited to 2500 words, essay/creative nonfiction to 1500 words, and poetry to 50 lines.

Eligibility: Persons and students who reside, work, or belong to an art association in Essex County.

Submission Guidelines: Names of authors must not appear on entries. Word count must appear in upper right hand corner. Unless submitted by email, three copies of each entry must be submitted along with entry form and requisite fees in a 9 x 12 envelope (Student competition has no fee). Entries not adhering to these guidelines may be disqualified. All accepted work will be on display at the Literary Arts Café and Writers’ World Exhibit during the Festival and cannot be returned. Winners should be
prepared to submit an electronic copy for publishing purposes.

Event location (during the Festival): Unitarian Universalist Church, 28 Mugford Street

Awards: In each category, ribbons are awarded for Best of Show, Outstanding Work, and Honorable Mention. In the Adult division only, in each category, $125 for Best of Show.

Special Award: One poem will be selected to receive the Marcia Doehner Award.
