Logo Contest Artists' Info |
Every year, the Festival is represented by a new logo, which is the result of a design competition. A panel of judges selects several finalists, and the general public determines the winning entry by ballot.
The Logo Contest rules are subject to change, and are announced each year at the time of the Logo Contest. Usually, the Contest is announced in early October, with entries accepted for a several-week period. To be eligible, an individual must reside in, work in, or be a member of an arts association in Essex County. Designs are limited to two colors in any medium (black is considered a color) and should symbolize the arts and/or the town of Marblehead. Each design must include, “Marblehead Festival of Arts,” and the dates of the summer Festival.
Designs should be adaptable to the silk screen process used on T-shirts, posters, and banners; to the embroidery process used on polo shirts and caps; to the printing process used on stationery and brochures; to black and white reproduction; to wide variations in size; and to use on colored backgrounds.
Each entry must be mounted on an 8 X 10 board; no other size will be accepted. Name, address and telephone number must be placed on the back of each entry. For black-and-white entries, color may be indicated as an overlay. No copyrighted designs will be accepted. All entries will become the property of the Marblehead Festival of Arts, Inc.
Each applicant is limited to five entries, which must be received at the specified location by the specified date. The entries are reviewed by a panel of judges who select several finalists. The general public determines the winner by ballot. Voting takes place during during November and early December, at specified locations.
The winning logo design is announced at a Logo Premiere Party, generally held in late January, and the winning artist receives a cash award.
Each year, Logo Contest entry information is announced in local newspapers and on this Web site. If you’d like to receive e-mail announcements of Festival events, sign up for Festival E-News.
